What is Foot Health?

Similar to a podiatrist or chiropodist there can be many reasons for using a Foot Health Practitioner, from routine nail cutting to general foot improvement and health or even for specific foot complaints such as verruca’s or ingrowing toenails. The service offered is to ensure your feet are healthy and in the best possible condition, whatever your age.

An Foot Health Practitioner maybe used if you have mobility and/or flexibility issues or simply don’t have sufficient hand strength to operate nail clippers. It could be that your eyesight is not

sufficient for accurate nail cutting and once a nail has thickened it can be very hard to cut. An Foot Health Practitioner can deal with all of these issues for you.

Why you need Foot Health Treatments?

CUTTING TOENAILS

Cutting toenails may seem like a rather simple task, but it is the primary problem that we see on a daily basis. If they are cut in the wrong way they can come ingrown, brittle, and even deformed. They are often the main reason for foot pain and can sometimes lead to infection.

FUNGAL NAILS

Overgrowth of fungi on or under the nail can cause an infection. This may result in yellow and white streaks forming along the nail, or it lifting away from the nail bed and feeling brittle. There are many causes for fungal nails and each is treated differently.

IN-GROWING TOENAILS

Some people are more prone to ingrown toenails due to the natural shape of their nail. Early treatment is highly recommended before the ingrown nail leads to infection and further complications. Often the nail hasn’t started to grow into the skin, however pain is experienced as the sharp nail edge presses into the side of the toe. They often reoccur and regular treatment may be required. Treatment is to reduce the width of the nail by cutting or filing then shaping and training the nail to grow in a pain free direction.

VERRUCAS & CORNS

Verruca’s, otherwise known as a human papilloma virus (HPV), start by invading the skin via a break in the skin itself. They create a small raised circular bump on the skin often with a black dot at the centre. Corns are areas of thickened skin on the foot often as a result of incorrectly fitting footwear.
